Review for "Gold Tone OB-250LW Lightweight Bluegrass Banjo"
Gold Tone OB-250LW Light Weight Banjo Best Lighter Weight Bluegrass Banjo Want to lose three or four pounds and still play a banjo with traditional beauty and great tone? This Orange Blossom model, rather than employing a brass tone ring, features a "tone rim". The high-quality multi-ply maple rim is machined into the shape of a flat head tone ring, but its all-wood design puts your OB-250 on a diet. If you're troubled with neck or shoulder fatigue during those long parking lot jams, THIS is your banjo. All other OB-250 features are here, including curly maple binding on the maple neck and resonator, GT-Master planetary tuners, hearts & flowers inlay, one-piece curly maple veneer on the resonator, a gorgeous new tobacco-brown finish and a super setup done right here at the Florida Gold Tone shop. Available as left-handed model. The OB-250LW (Light Weight) banjo rim is an easy way to shave a few pounds off your banjo. The all-wood “rim-and-tone-ring-in-one” replaces the separate wood rim and the two-to-three pound metal tone ring in your banjo. You save your back and the banjo’s sound stays punchy and satisfying with little loss of power and volume. The tone remains tight with a satisfying short sustain. The bevel at the top of the rim measures the same as on most bronze rings and creates the same effective head area as found on a standard flathead tone ring. The LW rim is a quick and inexpensive option for someone needing relief from fatigue during those long sets on stage, or even if you’re just tired of lugging around a thirteen-pound banjo. These are great sounding banjos and you can see they look really good too. Frankly I'm surprised we have not sold even more of these. This a fantastic innovation. Banjos are heavy, too heavy really, this wood rim produces a great sound without the bulky heavy feel of normal flat head tone ring banjos. This banjo is easier to practice with and perfect for gigs when you have to stand for a long period of time. It also would work well for someone who wanted the tone of a flathead but due to physical limitations could not use the heavier bluegrass banjos, or just did not want to struggle with the normal weight of a bluegrass banjo. I am going to get one of these for my personal collection. One of my absolute favorite Gold Tone models! Ross Nickerson ...Ross, got the banjo today and it sounds great. I am very happy with it and thanks for the personal service and not having to talk to a computer... Review of Gold Tone OB-250 LW
0 of 0 people found the following review helpfulI have had this lightweight bluegrass banjo about 2 weeks now, and I love it. It has a nice wide range of tones. It plays well in the first position and up the neck. The intonation is great up the neck. The banjo has very good sustain, although it does not have a brass tone ring. I think it probably is because the rim is machined like a flathead brass tone ring, although the tone rim is wood. It is not quite as twangy as a banjo with a brass tone ring, but it is still pretty loud. I believe it would "cut" in most jams. The banjo is definitely easy on the back. I have a lower back issue, but I can easily play this for 2.5 to 3 hours at a time. The banjo also has the look of a professional bluegrass banjo. I recommend this banjo.
