Gold Tone also shortened the height of the rim to be more consistent with professional banjos, slimmed down the neck and heel giving it a pro banjo feel but weighing about 5 LBS less. These new improvements make the BG-150F not only an affordable banjo to learn but also an excellent lighter weight alternative to the heavier flathead tone ring bluegrass banjos.I spoke to Wayne Rogers the owner of Gold Tone today about the new modifications. He explained how great the new feel was and that he had been playing it for 20 minutes and couldn't get over how great it sounded. In the 1930's Gibson banjos had the RB250 which had the flat head tone ring and cost more, that design is the same design and specs of the Gold Tone OB-3They also had the RB-100 which had the brass hoop ring like the BG-150F. The Vintage 1930's 100 series Gibson's are in high demand now because of their great tone without the heavy weight of the 5 LB flat head tone rings. So the concept is the same now as it was in the 1930's. With the BG-150F you save money, still get great tone and the weight is lighter. .....I found Ross's website and gave him a call to discuss my dream. Ross was so kind to learn what I wanted to do and helped me decide on the GoldTone BG150F.
