Head tension is critical to good sound. This is the official Deering Head Wrench.

9/32 size head wrench
This larger 9/32 size head wrench is the correct drum key for tightening the head on Goodtime, Artisan, Boston and Deering Vega banjos as well as other open back banjos that use the larger 9/32 nut size.

1/4 inch size head wrench
Deering 5 string Bluegrass Banjos Deering 4-string, and 6-string Deering banjos that are "NOT" a Goodtime, Boston or Vega use the standard 1/4 inch or 6.5 mm size.
