Goldtone Plucky Banjo is an excellent smaller banjo for kids and also makes a great travel size banjo for adults too.

A true backpacker weighing in at only two lbs. The neck width is similar to a full size banjo for ease of fingering. Its has low string action and plenty of volume. Perfect for the very young child, on the trail, or cuddling up with on the couch. Set up perfectly at our shop just like the big boys.
Open C Tuning
The Gold Tone Plucky is tuned to Open C Tuning. CGCEG. When you play the banjo it will sound and play just like a normal banjo with a capo on the 5th fret. You won't have to relearn anything you already know in normal open G tuning, it will just be in the key of C. It will be the same visually and tonally as when you capo a normally Open G tuned banjo to the 5th fret. Here is a chart for transposing chords in the key of C. Transposing chords will only be necessary when playing with others.
